Fun With FleeceSpecial Order 12 yard bolt
BAUM Velour Finish offers extra loft, and the smoothest finish, supplying more pill resistance than most other fleece. Velour Finish means that this product has extra loft, densely packed fibers, and a smooth texture. You will find that this fleece does not have the uneven or matted finish of most antipill products. This fabric has become a year round basic. For this reason, Baum Textiles has made Winterfleece™ available 12 months a year.
Winterfleece™ is 400 grams
58/60” wide, 100% polyester
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
Prewashing is not necessary.
Wash on delicate cycle in cold water using powdered soap only.
DO NOT use fabric softener or bleach.
(Liquid soaps and fabric softeners can remove the water repellent.)
Tumble dry LOW or line dry.
Sewing: Fleece is easy to sew. It does not fray so it is not necessary to the finish seams. A cut edge can be left as is without applying facing. Blankets can be made by cutting to the desired size and "Presto" the blanket is finished. Gently stretch the edge of the fabric that has been cut across from selvage to selvage. The fabric will curl to the wrong side.
Rub your hand over the fabric, the "fur" is going downward. The fabric will wear better and the color will look more even if the nap goes downward. Lay all pattern pieces in one direction.
Cut Fleece with regular scissors or rotary blade with 45mm or 60mm blade for depth and to keep layers from shifting.
Machine Sewing: Use a 12/80 sewing machine needle and synthetic thread. Sewing on a serger, use four threads and the differential feed if your machine has it. When sewing on a standard sewing machine, loosen the pressure on the presser foot and use a slightly longer than medium stitch length. We include 1/4” (6 mm) seam allowances on the patterns to eliminate bulk and trimming
Finishing: Wide zigzag on sewing machine, blanket stitch or whip stitch using yarn.
Stitch the edges with either a blanket stitch or a whip stitch using yarn.
To make fringe, on a scarf for example, determine the length of fringe you wish to have. Measure from the raw edge up and sew a straight stitch across the fabric. This assures you that the fringes will be the same length. Cut up to the stitches, approximately 1/2“ (1.3 cm) apart or the width you prefer. For a fun look, tie knots at the ends or in the middle of the strips.
To make tassels from fleece, cut the fabric into strips. This can be done using regular scissors. However, it is easier to get even strips if you use a rotary cutter. Simply sew a few together in the middle of the strips and attach to a hat.
